Today I received a link trade request from managed networks.

The offer looked a good one, closer inspection revealed that the seller was offering a FAKE Pagerank 5 link on manager-blog.net. a quick check on Google revealed that the PageRank was forged from gwi.de

Always check before exchanging links with websites, you can do so by searching Google. Just type info: and insert the domain name, the listed URL should match the domain name you searched.

Here is a copy of the email.

    Hi,

I have visited your website opseo.co.uk and I was wondering if it
would be possible to get a link to my partner's website on it?

I'll place a link back to you in my Web Design Guide website exactly
    here:

    manager-blog.net with page rank 5

If you agree, then please link to me using these details, I´ll place a
link back in less than 24 hours, otherwise you can delete my link from
    your site:

    Title: IT Support Manchester
    URL: http://www.managednetworks.co.uk/it-support/regional-it-support/north-west/manchester/

Description: UK support, IT management, and hosted desktop services.

Please don't forget to send me the title of your website after you
place my link so I can do the same.

I’ll be waiitng for your kind reply

    Regards
    Lucy Powell

Timely reminder: I see a lot of this crap going around. Good way to detect fake PR with the info: operator. Another way is to check the cache.

It’s a very common practise; buyer should also be aware and make the appropriate checks. I never do deals with people that send on spam emails in any case.

    Thanks Brian

Just use the info:www.url.com operator on Google. The site in question should match the site displayed by Google. Usually, faking PR is done using cloaking a 302 redirect to Google. Some sites even put a 302 for all. After a decent period of time, this site would show the PR of the site to which it is redirected. info operator tells what Google is seeing.
