Beware New eBay Scam

Might not be new but I almost (again) got fooled! 2nd close call this quarter. Best tip I can give is to regard all eBay emails as scams unless the links in there REALLY go to their website and nowhere else!

It's an email accusing you of fake bids and ask you to log in and fill out a mediation form. With multiple users of our account I thought someone might have made a small mistake so I forwarded the e-mail to this person. Only because of my spell check finding 'recieved' vs 'received' I found out it was a scam. The link in there goes to a scammers IP address.

    Beware!

Nothing new here. It's called phishing. ANY E-Mail 'from' ebay, PayPal, and *Insert bank name* is a scam.

I was almost fooled by one of those. After I viewed the source and saw it had nothing to do with ebay I was amazed at how real the email appeared. I'm sure there are a lot of people who fall for that scam every day.

I got the followup one for that this morning saying my account has been cancelled, hehe, they are trying...As sick and twisted as this is, you have to admit, it's pretty smart the way they are going about it. Talk about clickthrough ;)

And yes Mopac I am in fact stalking you

I forward bogus emails like this to the real sites, usually 'spoof@enterdomainhere.com'. Many reply with thank you letters and information how not to become a victim, but does my actions help anyone? I mean, I figure maybe the impersenated company would have a vested interested to legally go after these guys both legally and civially.

    Just trying to help.

    Hi:
I have received these too. If the email doesn't address you with your real name at top - then you know it is definitely a scam.

eBay keeps saying they are working on catching the perpetrators but they have been saying that for years.

    Hope this helps.
