Better to have multiple sites or one?

There are a number of fairly-related niche keywords that I would like to rank well for (top 5). There really isn't an intense amount of competition on any of them. My question is, would it be better to:

    1) Focus on creating one master site/blog with a few pages of content about each keyword

    2) Create a niche blog focused around each keyword with 5-10 total posts

Having a tough time deciding whether to focus on one or have a dozen blogs.

digitalpoint13 ,this issue is subjective. It depend on free time and ability to handle more than one blog.It is easier to build many blog but it is not easy to maintain it.Beside that you also need to think doing mktg for every blog that you have.I had written about this issue in my blog.you can see it below

I don't have any yet, still trying to decide which way to go. Do you think it's unrealistic to assume that for a specific niche keyword, I could make a blog, put 5-10 posts and not post again but still have a good ranking?

I'm not trying to monetize these blogs, just want a high ranking for other reasons.

What I'm going to add isn't anything to do with SEO - but doing that might not look great from the user's point of view.

It doesn't really matter if you have multiple sites or one.

You still need to get traffic to either one site - or all of the sites.

You should create one site - and concentrate on getting traffic to it first. Once you have done this - then move to another site.

You could create 100 sites and you will get limited organic traffic unless you put original content on each of them.

Further to this - Choose one and refine it. Concentrate 100% on the niche that it is in. Add lots of content and quality. Also - drive traffic to it.

Make it make money for you - and good money. Once you have done this - move to the next one.

If you have at least 1 main one and then a couple of very minor ones - you should be able to see which one is producing the best income for you - and then target it and let the others go.

I've been asking myself the same question, but I completely agree with EasyCash and that's what I'm doing right now, building a good site to stay then maybe building another one when I know that the first one doesn't need much of my time. I wish this day ever comes lol.

As you are newbie, I suggest you first try with one blog and promote it and after its success start other blogs if you feel easy to handle these.

My advice is to have more than one sites but the numbers should not be large enough to become unmanageable. Don't put all your eggs in a single basket and have two or three so that you can have enough time to promote them.

I think more number of sites will help you in the long run..but I would recommend you to start off with one site first..get a good number of visitors and then slowly diversify..

It much better to focus one site and then make sure that site is well develop if you're aware on quality compare to quantity. More site will make you less time to well develop each site and moreover time consuming for each site is vary on niche you're interest with.
