Hi, am a web designer for a firm but decided to break out and venture into the unknown overworked, underpaid The question i had in mind is which is better to increase my profit? having them sign up on an affliate link will net me 50-60 dollars i am not so sure how reseller account works? can anyone enlighten?
You should get a reseller account ..sending your customers to other hosts as an affiliate will generate a one time income while a reseller account will generate recurring income ...... and if you get good amount of customers you'll be rich. In a reseller account you pay the host monthly .... you get some resources (disk space , bandwidth) and can creata custom web hosting packages and then sell them to your customers. Check out Sacredserver.com ...... their small reseller plan costs just $15/mo (it has more than enough resources) ....... now if you create a package of $4/mo , then you just need 4 customers to cut your reseller account cost and after that you'll start making profits....
Thanks for the reply Yuri_Orlov, If i were to go with reseller, could i customize and bill them for the annual payment ? this way, its like i be receiving an affiliate comm? One thing i am considering is unlimited bandwidth if i refer them via affiliate link and a 500gb bandwidth if i were to apply for basic reseller? i have to further split the bandwidth among my clients could there be a potential problem here? Thanks for reading this
Its not like affiliate commision..... you just pay monthly reseller cost and what you get from your clients is 100% yours ... you can make custom packages and bill your customers as you need (monthly/quarterly/annually or whatever you like). Well, the unlimited is not really unlimited .... its just a marketing gimmick..... that is why i dont like hosts that offer unlimited bandwidth .... And dont worry... 500 GB bandwidth per month is enough..... By the time your usage reaches close to 500 gb , you'll be earning enough and wouldnt mind upgrading... I was with Sacredserver.com's Small reseller package .... which has 350GB bandwidth ..... after some time i started using around 300GB of it..... but by that time i had many clients(some business websites , some blogs etc) and was earning around $450/mo ... so i upgraded to their Medium plan... But you have to chose your host wisely... some hosts who oversell their services ......like hostgator have oversaturated servers....
Being a reseller lets you have control of your customer ownership. This is very important if you intend to run the business for long period of time. Being an affiliate meaning you are referring your customer base to the affiliate hosting company which i doubt something that you would want to do. Anyways, if you are looking for reseller accounts, do pm me as i am looking to share some of my server resources to people like you. To cover my cost a bit. It is a win win situation =P. cheers!
Godaddy is not good for hosting period. Not familiar with their affiliate program at all, but most people who have hosting there are not very pleased.
Thanks for the information, Could you tell me which host is better for reseller program, based in your experience?
Shopaserver.com is the host you are looking for, affordable, best features and friendly support ) good luck!
Definately a reseller type account. You want to get more from your work then a one time affiliate sign up payday. Take this for example, get a VPS dedicated server with m3server. You have the ability then to setup as many sites on this server as your resources allow. Then you can sell this space to your new clients. Say the server costs you $19.00 a month and you load 30 sites to it. Collecting just $5.00 per site from your customers, means you just profited $131 after you pay your server bill. As you can see this goes up as you get more clients, you also want to make sure your host you are using works with you and will grow the server as your business grows.
I think the question you really need to ask your-self before deciding on either route is how much time do you plan on dedicating to the web hosting aspect of your business? Keep in mind that the big difference between just referring your clients away or actually hosting them your-self (via reseller account) is that you will be responsible for the support/customer care of those clients. If I were you I would go with the reseller option, however just make sure the company you decide to go with is dependable. Stay away from the oversellers or companies claiming to offer unlimited/diskspace bandwidth. Either way, best of luck!
