Better to be 1st on page 2 or last on page 1?

Do you think it's better to be the first on page 2 or last on page 1?

I feel I often times only check the top results page 1 before clicking ahead to page 2.

If you think it's better for page 1, is this based on theory or metrics that you have tracked or read (from a reliable source)?

 

Being on the last of page 1 is better because it means that your rank is in the top 10. Much nearer to be on the top of page 1 rather than rank 11. When you aim for something, always aim to something big. That way, even if you failed, there were still lots of options ahead.

 

i dont know which would be technically better. but i think nobody clicks on the last result of the first page and instead will navigate to the 2nd page. and being at the top of 2nd page would be better aesthetically.

 

It would be hard for anyone to optimize his site to land on the top page of page 2.
Could someone really do that?

 

quite difficult but might not be practically impossible though. for doing that you have to find out the link building strategy of the site which is presently at position one of 2nd page and then follow its footprints to take that position. but it will be kind of hit and run strategy.

 

I would love to stay on Page 1 of google.
What is really good is that Google provide snippet view of the content you want to know.
So if the article is good, it likely that it will be clicked.

You know, SEO to get to the top of page 2 almost seems silly. I mean, come one, how would one finetune things that well?

Well, I think being on 1st page is what everyones aim to achieve on google. It shows that our hard works shows some efforts & google pull out our site from 7 or 8 page to 1st page. Being on 1st page at number 10 is better but if you do more work you can achieve your ranking in top 5 results of 1st page because there is where most of the users click. Don't think of going beyond 2nd page.

 

Well, I think It's better to have last position on 1st page is better than first on 2nd page.

 

I think the better is to keep in rank on the First page between 1 to 10 and if you want a best result then try to come between 1 to 3.. which is very hard to keep continuous with that Rank.

 

some times 10 th postion has more clickable ratio than 9th or 8th position . most of them always loves to stick on 1st page , me too

 

No matter what - being ranked on the first page is the best.

 

According to me non of the two is good for you because as per the Google algo most of the clicks goes to the site which have garbed the first 5 positions, so if you are at no last on first page or if you are first on second page it doesn't make any difference.

Last on 1 page is better because most of user see only 1st page result, and you are last on 1st page doing better seo and get more near result on 1st page..

 

I Dont Know which is better on Not But i got a heap of Keywords That are Ranked From Position 1 to Position 10 on First Page of Google.But I checked in Google Webmasters Tools that for Keywords i Have Rank 10 on First Page are more Clickable than the keywords for i have top rank on 2nd Page.

In terms of traffic its probably going to be rather equal. Once you get outside of the top 3 on the first page all traffic falls off dramatically so it doesn't matter much. Unless we're talking about a very high traffic keyword its a moot point. Obviously you want to be last on the first page because your end game should be to keep climbing in the rankings, so you're already 1 spot higher than if you were on the second page.

 

First page period! If you are on the second page that is just ONE MORE click the lazy person would have to do to get to your story/post. Think about it, people are plain lazy and making an extra click is like an act of congress for some. I would rather be at the bottom of page 1 than at the top of page 2. Odds of people going to page 2 are reduced drastically vs. clicking on a link on page 1 even if it is at the bottom... Scrolling is mentally not as challenging as mentally preparing yourself for an extra click to page 2 on google search results.

 

Top of page 2 would be preferable then bottom of page one, but you would not go out of your way to try and engineer this, that would be madness!
