hi all, currently i'm using two types of hosting, first hosting let me edit/write files and folders from website administration. ex: i can edit wordpress themes files directly from admin area without changing files permission, i also can upgrade WP-core and WP-plugins. second hosting: i can't edit files/folder directly from web admin, i need to change files permission before edit them, i also can't upgrade WP-cores and plugins directly from admin area. my question, which one is better for security reason and the easy of editing? if i want to change the rules of those permission, how to do that in my hosting control panel? thanks.
Hi, I have answered your questions below : 1. which one is better for security reason and the easy of editing? Ans. If you wish to edit the website files etc. on regular intervals, the first type of hosting package is fine for you. There is no reason to worry about security as long as you have kept the login details private 2. if i want to change the rules of those permission, how to do that in my hosting control panel? Ans. You are not able to edit the website files etc. in the second hosting package due to security rules on the server. If your hosting provider has enabled these settings then you can change the permissions through file manager of the control panel you have. Hope this helps
thanks for your answers Allen. so i need to contact my hosting provider? can it just set for my hosting package? if i have reseller level, can i change the setting? this is PHP or apache setting?
Hi again, I have answered your questions below : so i need to contact my hosting provider? Ans. Yes, ask them if you can change the rules in the second hosting package. can it just set for my hosting package? Ans. Confirm with the hosting provider, if yes, you can surely do that. if i have reseller level, can i change the setting? Ans. Yes, a Reseller hosting package is better in terms of configuration and features and hence you should be able to do that with the Reseller hosting package, however, you will have to confirm with your hosting provider about this. this is PHP or apache setting? Ans. Most probably, these settings are server side settings and hence you need to contact your hosting provider for this purpose. There are many reasons for which one has to contact the web hosting provider and hence it is recommended that you consider a hosting package with a hosting provider who offers 24x7 support so that you can contact them at any point of time for assistance
You could have asked these questions in http://www.webhostingtalk.com which is a good forum for Webhosting
