My site http://www.baju-busanamuslim.com/ is written in Indonesian language. What makes me wondering is why it is currently better ranked on google.com than on google.co.id. Perhaps, someone in this forum can explain regarding this issue?
waduh mas kasus nya sama kaya saya ni,..hehehe mas pake server usa ya??kalo bisa si pake server indonesia,..trus di google webmaster tool di setting untuk region indonesia aja kalo pasarnya untuk indonesia..
Your domain is .com and it is not .co.id Generally, .com domains will rank better in google.com instead of .co.id If you want to rank better in Indonesia, go to google.com/webmaster (claim your blog there) and follow this simple steps http://www.google.com/support/webmasters/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=62399 Also, this article on how to get geographical targeted visitors can help you get better ranking google.co.id serp ranking and will help you to deliver your geo traffic mainly.
@adhyatma3010's and @atniz: Thanks for your sharing guys, I do appreciate that. In fact, I'm considering to move to a local IIX hosting but, still wondering how it will affect my rank. @atniz: Perhaps, do you have (logical) arguments for what you said as "Search engine will give more credit to your local search if your site is hosted locally"?
If you have a .com and it hosted outside indonesia then it wont rank on google.co.id. I have a fair bit of experience with .com.au, and unless I host a .com in Australia on an Australian server it will not rank at all in google.com.au. If however its a .com.au I can host it anywhere, and it will appear in .com.au
As atniz said, domains w/ a .com TLD are assumed by Google to be targetting Google.com. Domain names w/ .co.id are assumed by Google to be targetting Google.co.id. Hosting does play a small part in rankings as well. If you are targetting Google.com then hosting your site in the US will give you a slight edge. If targetting Google.co.id then hosting your site in Indonesia will give your site a slight edge in the SERPs. If you want your .com domain to target primarily Google.co.id then signup for a Google Webmaster Tools account (if you don't already have one), verify your site (if you haven't already), and on the Settings page set your Geo targetting to Indonesia. Then build backlinks from primarily .co.id sites. It should be noted before you make the decision to do so that it is VERY difficult to rank well in BOTH Google.com AND a country specific Google. So you can expect if you change your Geo targettiing setting to Indonesia that your Google.com rankings WILL suffer.
An update: I moved my site above to an Indonesian server already and hope it affects my position on google.co.id.
