I run a site generally concerned with paranormal people, but the ads I get are pretty low-paying, probably due to the subject matter of the site. Anyone have any ideas how to expand the subject area and attract better paying ads whilst staying generally within my topic? I'm not expecting the CPMs you get for mortgages, lawyers etc but some improvement would be nice. The URL is www.mysteriouspeople.com
I can't not think of any keyword within your topic...which pays high $$$ Why don't you build another one?? related mental health or something...
I have found the best way to determine the value of keywords is to use the estimate traffic tool in Google
I have a fairly large site on ailments, medical problems and diseases. It covers all the common ailments from scabies, shingles, flu, nosebleeds, you name it, it's there. Has a lot of content for each medical problem. This site generates on averge 15 cents to 50 per ad, with the 50 cent clicks rare. And my ads are all very revelant to each medical term or problem covered.
Yeah deal with a niche of people who died from cancer and are now in the beyond, or deal with communicating with lawyers in purgatory.
The only advice i or anyone can give you is probably ad placement.. .you want your ads to blend in with the rest of your content so that people think that that IS your content .. and they'll click it... and also... go use overtures bid tool and put in keywords like for example paranormal and see what the most searched for keyword is! and then USE those keywords in your content! ... here's the link to overtures bid tool: http://uv.bidtool.overture.com/d/search/tools/bidtool/ and here's an example of the type of keywords you should integrate into your content:<quote>Paranormal Items Shop eBay for anything and everything - from specialized gifts to custom clothing. It's all on eBay. www.ebay.com (Advertiser's Max Bid: $0.19) Paranoemal Spell Casting and Horoscopes Purchase world-class paranormal horoscopes, powerful love and money spells, good luck charms and amulets and lots more. Absolutely guaranteed or your money back. www.spellmasters.com (Advertiser's Max Bid: $0.11)</quote> $0.20 cents! oooo!! haa... you see, that's what you want to do, find the highest paying keyword related to your content! Also, look for keywords in my list that relate to your topic here: My adsense keyword list: http://www.theblahbrain.com/adsensekeywords.htm
Paranormal can relate to depression, social anxiety and TONS of Mental Illnesses... and that's your bridge to ... lets say MEDICAL! So for example if you used like someone with depression or neurosis ... then keywords you could use would be like Zyprexa which is a high paying keyword.. Tons of stuff and I think my list would help: Look for keywords in my list that relate to your topic here: My adsense keyword list: http://www.theblahbrain.com/adsensekeywords.htm
For ad placement try a square ad with black border, black background and orange links...place it within the other links on the home page.
I 2nd uprisen make the add the same color as your site & your links use the big box 338x280 (or close) thats the BIG money maker and BLEND it into your site the less they look like ads the better..
I hope you're joking. Are you suggesting people who have an interest in the paranormal are often depressed, have social anxiety, and mental illness? You've been reading the DSM too much.
Hi... I'm new here, but would love to jump in to make a suggestion. If you have trouble finding new keywords it might help to use a thesaurus. I usually use the one at http://dictionary.reference.com/ I looked up Paranormal and found "mystic" and "psychic". You might not relate exactly with those terms, but they are indeed related to your field. That is where you can probably double your current ad income. If you can put a heading on your page containing those words (even if you are using them to say you are NOT those things), it could help.
Thanks for all the replies. Using the overture bid tool the words 'psychic' and 'medium' seem to pay fairly well for the topic so I'll be using them more on the site. Will also take the ad placement tips on board and post back on this thread with the new layout and any increase in revenue.
