Better Google rankings??

I was recently told using VALID XHTML / Clean HTML makes you rank far better, and that there's an imporant code 2 content ratio to keep:

"You can not code no better for SEO than W3 Valid HTML 4.01 (or XHTML 1.0) Strict and CSS 2.0 Valid."

Can anyone confirm this and tell me why this would be and HOW much of a difference it actually makes?

    Thanks guys,

    Mischa

I tried to validate this page "google.com/"

in W3C, but it gives 50 errors. I think this will answer your question :)

Sorry Angelina, I'm not sure what you mean? Can you expand on what you have said?

This is what Angelina want to tell you. :D "Even google itself is not passed W3C validation with 50 in errors, so why you are worry too much about this?"

I agreed with Angelina of course. :)

angilina has hit the right spot :)

Even Matt Cutts from Google said that they are not taking validation as priority at least for now.. However, you want to make sure that the bots can index your site without any issues.

The only reason using valid HTML can possibly help your rankings is that it means that there are no HTML errors on the page that might cause a search engine to misread your page. There is some evidence, for example, that if you mistakenly use Google's site validation <meta> tag which is delivered to users coded in XHTML on a page that has a plain HTML 4.x !DOCTYPE statement, that Google will ignore or at least discount the few portions of the <head> section of that page for ranking purposes. But by far, its more common that a simple mistake like accidentally forgetting to add a closing quotation mark on a tag attribute value causes whole sections of a page to be ignored, and that's where validating your pages can protect you.

Good stuff! Sorry Angelina, I see exactly what you are getting at! Yep spot on, I won't worry too much - I'm guessing I will know if something is being ignored because my pages will drop in the rankings.
