Better for SEO user.domain.com or www.domain.com/user

I am building a site that will have directories for individuals, all the sites will be linking back to the main domain and the main domain will have a directory linking to each individual..

What is better for SEO, should I set up each person with a user.domain.com or with a www.domain.com/user

    Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

Hi Grant, I think, if we look around SEO perspective, the second option is better choice i.e www.domain.com/user . This is becoz if you use user.domain.com then you are able to use one single keyword for the domain. But if u use www.domain.com/user, you can use diffrent/mulltiple no. of keywords like /user, /user1, /user 2 etc.

user.domain.com is a TLD (Top level domain). So if you are cncerner from SEO point of view, you can only use single keyword in the place of 'Domain' So, its justified to use www.domain.com/user

    Hope this helps :)

using as a folder is better because subdomains are completely new domains for search engines. because of this they are not going rank well

yep - an inbound link to sub.domain.com is linking to that sub.domain only, but a link to domain.com/user is seen as a link to domain.com. (Hope that makes sense?) :)
