    Genesis and Thesis are the best themes for Wordpress. Lots and lots of features and coded really well. :)

    It completely depends on the subject of the blog. A theme that's great for a cooking blog would be terrible for a World of Warcraft blog.

    I agree with Rukbat, the theme should work well with the subject matter or focus of the website. I would recommend spending a little money and using one of the great premium themes that are available. With all of the hacks and updates going on its nice to have a theme that is regularly updated.
