Looking for a good popup system for WP. I'm wanting to insert a "subscribe to my feed" popup on my blog. I tried "WP Popup Scheduler" and couldn't seem to get it to work. Any other suggestions?
aweber is an autoresponder and cost monthly. I'm looking for a popup script for wordpress. So readers can subscribe to my feeds
I am curious as to why you would want to do this in the first place. If people really want to subscribe to the feed, they will just do it. Forcing a popup on them is not going to help much, and it may have the opposite effect.
I disagree. First off, it wouldn't be on every visit. It'll be random. Second, I'm doing it as a trial. It could be spammy if done incorrectly. But I'll keep it sweet. maybe something like this http://maketecheasier.com/wordpress-plugins/wordpress-popup-scheduler
Okay. Sounds like a nifty idea, if done in moderation. That plugin should do the trick for you. I understand how that plugin works. Appears that it is cookie-based for determining if the visitor is a repeater or first-timer. One thing it cannot do is determine if the reader has subscribed to your feed or not. So some rules of logic may apply here. One is that clicks from a feed usually do not come in on the home page. Second, feed clickers are probably going to have many visits. Would suggest not showing the popup for any of that criteria. Perhaps non-home page entries, and second through fifth visits (instead of random) by that sixth time you have to assume they either subscribed or didn't and maybe just let it be. It might be nice if the plugin author can check for the referral Url to determine this. Referral strings can identify other types of referrers as well, such as SE traffic, email traffic, external websites, etc. Would be slick knowing this and using it to your advantage with other types of targeted popups.
Great ideas. I'm not sure how to track who is who. So that is why I would have to be careful with the popups. My blog has original content, informative, it's "matter of fact" (which may or may not be what most readers want?). My blog isn't the "blog" type, it's straight forward info and reviews. With that said, my repeat visits isn't as good as I think it should be. After publishing hundreds of good, high quality content I get a lot of google visits. Which is good. Now my focus is on getting those visitors to keep coming back. The popups won't be pushed hard. Maybe run it a day a week for every 3rd visit. Othertimes the popup could introduce hot news or contests. I'm still thinking of new ideas and I know popups are a "fragile" area. I know I hate popups... but I don't think I would mind it once in a while only if it isn't rammed down my throat aggressively.
I have come to the conclusion on SE referral traffic is that most of the audience are RSS illiterates. The type who do not know what it is for. Follow? One thing they do understand is Email and weekly newsletters. Offer them one of those instead, or the option of either. Feedburner has this built in now and could be used, or you can hook in a script to do it for you and keep it and the mailing list on your own server.
I think that's what I mean. "sign up to my enews" with a spot for them to insert their email address. Whenever I make a post on the blog, results the subscriber mailed an "update". Since I post daily, they will get an email everyday from feedburner. Which might be annoying to some. I'll look into feedburner to see if I can modify the settings. One email a week i think would be better.
The easiest and most effective pop up plugin is the maxblogpress popup ads plugin, use it! I hate pop ups though and its a big no no if you ask an honest advice about if you should or should not put pop ups, but, thats just me.
I bought actionpopup 2.0. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZN0e7LoaNtM Now I'm looking for a strategy on how to optimize it. My goal is to get visitors to return... but not to spam them. So I have to find a happy medium
Action popup 2.0 was a bit to powerful for my needs... the offer has a 60-day refund and he honored that with no questions asked. I change to "Wordpress Popup Scheduler" which I really like. I noticed it's helping my users bounce through to my "classifieds" section without being annoyed.
