    I use Yoast wordpress plugin for seo and it works for me. This creates sitemap so you do not need to install Google XML sitemap plugin separately.
    Use CBNet Ping Optimizer to stop unwanted pings.
    There are other plugins for different purposes.

    I use Yoast SEO plugin, but prefer to use Google Sitemap Plugin over the one what comes with Yoast
