Ok, I have been doing some searching around and thought i might as well ask you guys before i made a decision. What do you guys think is the best width for a gaming forum? I don't wanna go any less then 800px i wanna shoot for 950px but I am not sure. Using 950px will allow users to view all the content when using 1024x786 resolution but they cant see the border of the site. So what you guys think I should do?

if you are using a large scale monitor (etc. 15", and so on) i think 900px would do.

760 would be the least and best one because it would work like a charm on 760Px screen resolution and All above!

You can use 1024 or above if you focus developed countries since in India, A Lot of people have Small screen ranging to a Width of 760Px

I prefer to keep it 1024px as 1024x768 is the most used resolution of screens on internet.

I've seen 960 thrown around as the perfect width for a 1024 resolution. It's in the range you want to be in, that is, a bit lower than the screen res to account for browser border and for people who don't have their browser at full screen. Plus, it's a good number for grids, since it is divisible by 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 10, 12 and so on.

I like 960 - good if you can make site flexible width to cater for smaller screens
