Statcounter is not fully free, it is free upto 500 entries. IMO, Google analytics is the best free analytics tool..:)

There are many other trackers out there: ExtremeTracker, Sitmeter, shinystat, etc... (statcounter is quite limited by comparison as manish said)

But you should try several and see which is best for you.

server log stats are good to suppliment exiting tracker data. However, you must be careful because the web log data will contain spam and bots which skew your true site usage numbers.

Google is very complete and almost all programs try to measure up to it. I also find MS adCenter Analytics a very good tool.

I prefer Google Analytics first, and Webalizer would be my second choice.

Try statun.com. It's quite new, but has a well-organized interface and a lot of features.

I find Google missing...or does not record almost up to 1/3 of my daily visits.

I have two trackers on one site, besides Google.... though the two have slightly different stat numbers they both out-record google's stats.

This is just my experience, so Please don't think I'm out to get Google, or put people down who rely on it for their stats.
