I have a website, http://cashnow4books.com and after a few designs and redesigns have come up with the layout that I currently have now. What I am really looking for is feedback on how would I go about creating a more customer friendly design? What do you think of the functionality and whatnot?

    Hello,

I am sure it took a lot of work to get your site to the point it is now if you've been doing it yourself, so I don't want to sound harsh. But feedback isn't helpful if it isn't honest, right? My first impression of your site is that you still have work to do.

The visual presentation needs help; the whole page is low-contrast and unexciting. You have large portions of purple background with blue textlinks; this is very user UN-friendly. You want to draw attention to your main point first, the first thing my eyes were drawn to was the AdSense ads, probably just because they were on the left.

On the plus side, you are on the right track in clearly stating WHAT your site is about at the top and HOW you are going to help your customers immediately afterward. Keep that, but try to make it more interesting. You'll need additional pages to get into more detail about what you are doing to keep the front page from getting too cluttered.

The BEST way to accomplish all of this is to stop trying to code it in html from scratch. Find a suitable, attractive, and functional WordPress theme and convert your content to that. It will look better, work better, and give you MANY more options in terms of functionality down the road.

Good job getting this project online. I think, however, if you learn to adapt it to WordPress you'll be making things much easier on yourself. Good luck in any case with your business and your site.

    Cheers,
    Neil

Thanks for the quick reply! I understand that the website is very basic and not very appealing, that is why I am coming to this forum for advice. Why should I choose WordPress over any other template? Are there any templates in particular that would lend themselves to my business?

On another note, if there is a designer that is looking at my post, I would be interested in working with you to optimize the design and layout.

    Thanks,
    Carl

There are other formats that could serve your needs in the short term, but WordPress is the most versatile platform, with the most plugin applications for business-oriented websites out there. Themes are featured (many of them free) at http://wordpress.org/extend/themes/. It's what the pros use, so to speak, and since it's free...why not?

Converting your site to WordPress, with or without professional help, will serve you best in the long term.

    All the best,
    Neil

Using WordPress seems good, but won't other sites be using the same layout that I would possibly choose? Another question I have is, how much should I expect to pay to upgrade or redesign my current webpage and add a shopping cart, database, and a search feature?
