Best web design software for a noob

I am a complete newbie when it comes to HTML and site designing. What would be the best program for me to create my own splash pages?

Is there one where I can just drag and drop pictures and text and it does the HTML coding for me? If that even exists..

A free one is preferred, but if there is a really good, easy one that costs money that is ok too..

    thanks.

Best way to learn is to use one that professionals use, otherwise you just get used to beginner programs and don't improve much.

    I'd recommend using Dreamweaver.

I've used Frontpage and Dreamweaver before and I personally recommend Dreamweaver. I've learned a ton of things from it to get me to where I am today.

I think Dreamweaver is not so hard even for newbies, and there's a lot of tutorials around the web.
For sure - You'll probably find and lot of "drag n drop" applications, but if you're serious - DW is the right tool.

I'm agree Dreamwever is easy way to design a site. But if you want to make a site, Have you try CMS like wordpress or Joomla? It's going to more easy work with it.

Try learning HTML instead of using Dreamweaver or any other WYSIWYG/drag & drop application. If you start with dragging and dropping, you'll be heading down a very slippery, dangerous, and ultimately crappy slope (and it leads nowhere!).

Learn to code. It's easy and it's fun.

You CAN use Dreamweaver to code (I do), but there are heaps of great freeware/open source applications out there too. My favourite is www.PSPad.com. Download it, and learn how to code HTML by hand :)

Dragging and dropping is for girls :p :) :D
