Forum posting is not spamming. Just don't post your link here there an everywhere. Have a link in your signature and post something relevent to the thread. Build a list of forums, preferably DOFOLLOW forums, find a post that you have decent information on and post with your link in the signature. Every post is a precious backlink.

Lots of people on here will say to use link directories and forum postings and article marketing. Those are ok, but they are NOT going to help you compete in a very competetive field of SEO. You need one way backlinks that are on quality websites, that are permanent and that are on related websites.

I had my listing in a directory under Connecticut Web Designers and I wa still getting ranked (for Connecticut Web Designer) after I moved North Carolina and reestablishing my website and business to be North Carolina focused. I still ranked #2 on Google (for Connecticut Web Designer) until I switched that directory listing to be listed under North Carolina. But all that time that particular directory listing did not show up as a backlink on Google.

Just get your name out there. Some directories are good, most are bad. Article submission sites are great. Forums are good also. You should think more along the lines of exposure (to humans) rather than back links (from spiders).

 

Make blogger blogs.
Update them once a week. After 2-3 weeks link them back to your site.
make articles, submit them.
