A week or so ago I started a Nintendo DSi forum for the upcoming nintendo dsi. (see sig for link). I have been pulling all the tricks to get members. I have contests going for posts, I have been getting links, I am posting on related forums, and I have created fake accounts to post under. So far it has worked ok, I have a handful of active posters. So my question is, what is your secret to really attract members to register for your forum and post? What kind of things did you do in the beginning?
Not sure, try things like rewarding them Rapidshare Account, or promote them for winning, or somethings like that.
I usually to try and think to myself, why do I join a forum? When I get some reasons why I like to join other forums I try and implement as much of them into my own forums as I can. Just think of forums you're a member of, and see why you joined them. If you can add them to your own forum, do it
Well the only secret that I can think of is posting quality, thought-proviking threads and users will come and discuss whatever they please. I'd say having laid-back rules in the beginning and then toughing up the rules later on would really help boost your community. It's all about effort, time and dedication. Contests work, but not for long-term growth. It only helps for short-term growth unless you have other methods to keep your users coming back.
