    Hi,

What in the experience of the high rankers is the best way to write the meta description? What things do you consider when writing?

    Thanks

There are many mixed views on this topic, but I'll share what I like to do. For the META description, 20 words MAX. Include your primary and secondary keywords in the description twice. Also, try and be creative with the description so that it is readable and makes people want to click your link in the search results after reading it.

Putting a call to action in your description may help too. Remember that Google uses your description in displaying results.

Remember to spam the meta tags with too many keywords. Number of keywords in an important factor.

Keyword in Title Tag: Choose the target keyword and put it on the <title> tag. The keyword must be near the beginning (6 or 7 words).

Keyword in Description and Keyword metatag: Lest important in Google but it still important for other Search Engine like: Yahoo and MSN… Attention: The “Keyword Metatag” must has the keywords related to the content of web page (155 characters)

I use the META description tag to write a clear and concise description of the page which contains a compelling call to action that when combined with a good TITLE tag will make people want to click the link to my site rather than that of a competitor.

    Nothing else.

Meta description or DMOZ listing will be displayed on Search Results, if you have keyword stuffed Desc it will not help much but with min 3 to 5 Keywords in desc of Titles will boost bit

Well, description tag should be write very clear and given proper information about your services with in short length. I don't think there we put so many keywords it's bad way to write.

One directive for the optimal length of the Description, gives Google itself in the Serps show: Each hit description consists of about 160 - 180 characters, with approximately in half a turning point is being made. So the Description in the first part (70 - 80 characters) should not only include the basic keywords, but should also encourage to click. In the second row put the Less important part of the keywords or possibly even once again the main keyword. Use only terms (keywords) that you also used in the body text and will occur on the page.

While search engines allow much more text in the Description, remember the less the Description text contains, the more important every word is.

Good catch, Aryans. You're most definately right and are correct to disagree with him (after all, his statement is completely wrong).

The shorter description the better. I prefer something that will tell the user what is the page about when he sees the description in SERPs...

I think too many keywords in meta tags is a very bad idea. Make it simple and easy to understand.
