Hi all, I've recently started a health & wellness blog and totally believe I can get some decent traffic as the months go on. I'd really like to work on monetizing it as soon as I can, and have registered for Amazon Affiliates accordingly (I've heard it's one of the best methods). Anyway, I'm looking for some advice regarding how best to implement the ads? I know that content links are one of the best ways to do this, but in what context would this work best for me? Let's say I'm writing an article about dietary fat intake. Do I link to related products? Do I write my content as usual and then post a couple product reviews every month? I just want to get this right in MY context without upsetting any potential readers, but maximizing the monetizing power of my blog. Thanks for any help
If you want to make money, write original content with links to relevant products on Amazon. Most people find this the best way to make money. If you're writing an article about fat intake, you could link to books discussing the topic, low-fat foods on Amazon, things like that. Just don't make the mistake of promoting products in every single post you make - if you add value, you'll get repeat visitors.
In addition to context links, one of the things I've found that works well with Amazon is having a "Recommended Reading" section in the sidebar and listing 3 or 4 Amazon products. Or, in the example of your post on dietary fat intake, you could put a box at the end of the post that says something to the effect of "if you'd like to learn more about dietary fat intake, here are some additional resources you may find helpful" and link to a couple of things. I'm also guessing that in health and wellness, there would be plenty of DVDs to list in a "Helpful Resources" section or sidebar widget.
I would try and think about it this way: First, provide great content and articles. Second, try to monetise. In other words think about doing great content and earnings will follow. Don't upset your readers with blatant, in your face adverts but subtely provide links to Amazon where they would need them.
