Best way to track monthly hits free for a keyword

    You can keyword planner in google adwords but those numbers are just estimate.

    Adwords keyword tool has the best estimates.

    For more precise data, you can verify your website with google webmaster tools, and google will tell you how often your top queries are searched for - and how often your website gets hits - but you can't pick your keywords there, you just rely on the data that google is displaying.
