Best way to stream live audio on my site?

I'm looking at starting a live radio feed from my desktop to my website. My question is...what would be the best method to simply broadcast from my PC mic to my website live audio stream?

Also, if you know of any software/website/scripts that show graphical soundwaves when you're broadcasting, that would be awesome..I need some sort of system to show my website viewers that I am live on the radio right that instant.

    Many thanks!

You should first decide in what format you will stream the live audio. Quicktime, windows media, mp3.....

Then , what will be the bitrate of your streaming audio.

Are you planning to have multiple listeners at the same time? Will your desktop upstream will be good for it? Are you on a DSL ?

Then, based on the API of the streaming server, you can write scripts that will allow you to see current listeners, bit rates etcetc...that will depend what streaming server API/tools will offer you.
