best way to start being an affilate

I have been selling online for years and have been successful at it. I want to get into Affiliate programs as well. Im not to sure of where to start. Should i just build up a successful blog and write about products maybe?

4. write articles about the good of the affiliate programs (not overly promotional) that you represented and send them to article directories.
