whats the best way to search for forums?
lets say Im looking for a running forum. does search for "forum + running" work? how about "forum:running"? or will "running forum" do the job? thanks.

try things like these in Google:

    inurl:/forums/ Subject

    inurl:/forum/ Subject

    intitle:forum Subject

    subject intitle:disussion board

    etc.

Google Advanced Operators are your friend!

it will be better to use different search queries and use 'allintitle' and 'allinurl' instead of 'inurl' and 'intitle'

You should search for queries like

    allinurl:forum running
    allinurl:community running

    allintitle:forum running
    allintitle:community running

    and other related keywords.

also be careful, there are lots of sites like my own which use the domain name as the forum. or where the forum is a subdomain. (alot of the times these sites are bigger than those as a simple subdomain.

If your looking for a search engine of the biggest forums around (Min 500k posts). Try http://www.big-boards.com

Best forums are those which have DO Follow options.
