Best way to receive donations for 3rd parties?

I have a site in mind that will feature several churches and charities. I'd like to have paypal buttons available for donations to each.
    • Would this be a simple matter of them becoming paypal merchants and giving me the code for their buttons?
    • Will paypal allow editing of the buttons to identify each church?
    • I've tried a few emails to paypal but get answers like "I understand you would like a merchant account".

i think if you wanted it to be seperate you would need a merchant account. Or else they will all go to the same name etc... Hope this helps you out

I have a premium merchant account. I'm hoping I don't have to handle any donations at all other than hosting each churches button.

I'm picturing a row of buttons with each churches name or text under...donate to church a, dontate to church b, etc. each button linking to that churches paypal account.

I think it would make things easier if each church had a paypal account... then there would be no fees involved either..

uh..yeah thats what I think too. I was hoping to find the best path to enable those churches to do just that. I'll probably end up just diving in and sorting it out as I go.

    Your two options are:

    1) Each church has a paypal account and their own donate button.
    2) You set up a non-profit charity that serves to distribute funds to other non-profit organizations, accept the money and legally transfer it to the other non-profits.

One is super easy, the other is a red tape and accounting nightmare :p

I am pretty sure you can use your own images i see people do it all the time I myself do it. Just put on the button the name of the church and "donate now" below it =) let me know if you need anymore info on paypal.
