Hello member: I have one question about SEO and how to get indexed from my new domain. The content of the new domain has all from the old domain. I created a new content for the old domain. I have one domain 1+ years old and get good indexed on some key terms. But the domain name is not very good so I bought a new domain name with good name. I like to promote this new domain. This is what I did but not sure if it is a right way or not. New domain has these links: newdomain.com/index.html, newdomain.com/register.html, newdomain.com/faq.html, newdomain.com/members.html newdomain.com/others.html I placed all links from new domain on the old domain so that when users click on any of the link, it points to the new domain. Is this a right way to promote my new site? Thanks for reading. Jenny.
Heh, I had to read that 5 times. The answer is no if I am reading it correctly. If you have the exact same content on both pages(am I nuts?) you have two websites with the same content. If you must put the same content on a new domain....ala found a much better domain name, then you want to place a server side 301 redirect to the new one(from the old one) and simply let the old one go away after..err.. quite a while really. I would in fact leave it there indefinitely. In fact, I would remove all files from the old one, and run a 301 redirect to the new one. hope that helps...or, in this case..was not to vexing. Links would help so we can observe what your trying to do. I am still a bit stumped. Navigational links, like home for instance, should not leave the domain you are on for starters. So, new content is not the point here on domain A. Nigel
I agree with Nigel Lew, it is better to use 301 redirect. You do not want the visitors visiting the old domain anyway, right?
How many visitors are you geting - If it isn't amy I would not bother with the redirect - just let it slide. If you have heaps then this is another story.
Self policing at its best. Keep up the good work and I mean it. From what I could gather, it seems that he/she is using the content from the old website on the new one, and has written fresh content for the old website. Poor chap, probably was unaware of 301 redirect. Anyways Jenny, go ahead with Nigel's advice and you should have what your came looking for. All the best. Feel free to ask for more.
Link building Add your site to link directories and exchange links Pick some good keywords and a description This has worked for me and google has indexed my sites quicker.
Thanks so much guys. The old domain has PR2 so I want to put links from new domain to old domain is to get PR2, is it right? If I want to create a new site and put all content from the old site to the new site, then get rid off the old site in a short time. What is the best method? Thanks.
you can not get PR2 on new domain very soon, it need time! The best method is what Nigel Lew posted, use 301 redirect.
Isnt that the truth. Ive had a site for more then a year, and it is still PR2. Just do not hold your breathe when it comes to google. why do you think they are a billion $$ company and those that advertise with them are not?
