Best way to promote a forum. Suggestions?

I've just purchased this forum www.globalgoldtalk.com. I don't have much experience with forums so your suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

What is the best way to promote such forum?
What would you add to the forum? What is missing?

ask your members...that's what I do...of course it easy for me.

 

I should be asking; How did you promote your forum? You have a lot of members on!

 

Atleast 10 members who post everyday on the site, + passively promote it. Initially you may wanna buy ads on related sites etc.

 

First you need to make it more 'unique'. Try to add a cool/unique skin, add some modifications (you can ask your members regarding that) and then start a money giving contest.

You can't imagine how a $$$ contest can grow a forum....

 

1) Do not pay people to post in your forum. it makes you look silly and they only spam to get paid and then they are gone.

2) make the entire forum actually about something. I had a chill and chat forum and it got no where, while a forum I have for a music artist took off. Mostly because it had an actual topic.

3) Just make it the best in its topic. It'll get big by word of mouth.

 

Since you already have a strong member database and a good number of active members, a referral contest with an attractive reward may work very well to make your forum better. The member with most no. of referrals wins the prize.

 

As far as I know the old owner use to rum advertise it on google and running a referral contests
