pingomatic is the best site for pinging, but don't over do it, because some search engines block the sites who do over pinging, further if you are using wordpress then you don't need to do pinging because wordpress have default settings in which a ping is sent to search engines on submitting a new post.
There are thousands upon thousands of these style sites that collect data and statistics... Basically. When you submit your site, sometimes they actually get indexed and give you a backlink... If they do, however, it usually doesn't last very long. pingdevice is cool but when you have +1k links to ping this a better solution.
A new pinging service that I have been using with my blogs is BlogBuzzer.com. It allows you to ping to social media sites as well including Twitter, Stumbleupon, and delicious.
