Make sure that you have all the onpage seo covered as that is the first big step, then work towards building up as many links as possible to your site. Make sure they are good sites though as black listed sites can have adverse effects on your sites rankings. Find good keywords with low competition and good search volume.
Optimize your pages with those keywords.
