What is the best free site that allows you to place some code on your blog so that you can see ALL the traffic that hits each page of your blog, where they came from, where they went, etc, etc.

    Thank you

Goggle analytics is best for traffic tracking.

GA is really tops, but another easy to set up stats package that is popular with bloggers is http://www.sitemeter.com

You can use statscounter.com , they're the best counter out there. They monitor, exited pages, how the user found your site, country, etc.

But I think free version of stat counter has limitations. Their log file is small.

GA is alright, I have used it a few times. I still like to use Awstats over GA.

Thank you for the suggestions. If you use one of these services and receive code, where is the best place to put it? Would it be best to put it in the header or footer of a WP blog? My goal would be to ensure that traffic to all pages is logged.

From what I've read, the footer is the best place to put the tracking script. Just above the closing "</body>" tag.

Take a look at www.quantcast.com. While GA has the BEST detailed information, quantcast gives you a profile of your users in terms of ethnicity, income, age, gender, etc. Best of all, it's FREE!! :)
