A direct advertiser for forums is the way to go. AdSense is great but with forums it's hard to monetize properly and they have rules which don't help forums at all. BuySellAds.com as d3wlin posted above is a good alternative too. Good luck!
well if you have that unique number of visitors i would go after direct advertising and premium memberships if you have a solid number of members who are vary active
Some other ideas are to sell / write a book related to the topic or other related products or to create a classifieds section where people have to pay to list or promote their listing
sell advertisement places and footer links. create a product related to the forum and sell it to members.
Premium memberships, ads, and sticky threads with affiliate links that relate to your niche (with a paragraph explaining why you recommend them)
You could also add random posts added inbetween topics as ads ( commonly seen ), or a ''click to skip ads'' ad.
The answer to the question depends on what type of traffic is being attracted. If it's non-targeted traffic coming to look at the picture of Katy Perry you have on your website then the answer will be a lot different to if you're getting 10,000 visitors each day attracted to your specific website niche.
