Best way to make a site selling Baths, showers etc in future.

I have been asked to make a site for a my neighbours friend who has start a new business selling baths, showers etc. at this stage all he wants is to get all his products online like a catalog and have people ring to enquire about the items.

But later he might decide to start selling online so my question is what is the best way to make the site to begin with. Can you still use something like oscommerce and not have any prices and buy buttons or should I just start by making html pages?

The other problem is there are atleast a couple of hundred items along with item descriptions. Add all this in html can take a while would I be better of using something like phpnuke etc (this is the only cms I have used) or is there something better I could use.

Is grand opening is September 3 which doesnt leave me with much time. We havent discussed money yet either so what would be a good price to ask for (£.gbp)?

Why don't you just start out by selling online? I think it is cheaper than selling offline.

He has already got a shop etc all ready for the opening but wanted a website too to catalog all his items. I can only go by what he as requested.

Depending on the amount of products, simple HTML pages would be fine (if less than a dozen or so). The pricing is your question to answer -- how much is your time worth?

There is going to be atleast 200 items min.

Going to break the items down roughly as follows
Baths: type 1, type 2 etc
    Taps: Single, Mixer, Sensor etc.
Toilets: type 1, type 2 etc
    Showers: Cubicle, Power, Steam etc.

I was thinking something like OSCommerce should the trick but not putting in prices etc... Is that possible?

Yes it is, you need to visit the oscommerce contributions page and download a hack that removes prices and buy now with inquire buttons. ;)

Thanks mate that exactly what I needed to know, at this stage I dont think my client wants to sell online but it is a possibility in the future. So im assuming you would just reverse the hack by adding the required tables in sql?

well just keep the installation files and re-edit the php files that require editing, don't think there should be any database changes.

Joomla + Virtuemart would be perfect. But default virtuemart shop styling looks awful and there aren't templates for components so you need some CSS/HTML/PHP skills to work with it.
