Best way? Start by writing a business plan as to how you are going to run a link campaign. IMO there is no best way, only different ways some of which may work better depending on how tenacious you are as well as whether you are going to buy help or do it yourself. If you can afford help, do it as long as you know how to pick the right seo, copywriter, link builder.........
I write at least two press releases a year, more if I have something to say. I post here, more to learn than to spout all this vast knowledge I have- joke:)
Learn by visiting here and other forums, although this is heavily read and thus is my favorite. If you like to write then submit articles to various good PR directories. If there were a "best" way everyone would do it, google would learn of it, likely ban it and we would all go in search of the next "best" way. Everyone has an opinion and mine alas is worth what you paid for it. Good Luck!!!

Start submitting to social bookmarking sites, and then commenting on relevant blogs. This has worked best for me.

    By building links...

Lets see I usually do a mix of:
Social bookmarking - onlywire makes this easy
Blog commenting - relevant blogs as many as I can stand doing
Articles - Ezine for sure and then spin and throw at the other top spots
Buying high authority relevant links - find sites that have high pr, good rankings and traffic in your niche and buy some spots with them
gov and edu links - I like to do some high authority ones of these as well

Then what? Do it some more and never stop.

I prefer blog comments. but you should consider about blog page less OL, less spamy, dfollow and life time of the blogs. if you can keep strong quality 10 high pr blog comments you will get unbelievable pr update.

You are already building backlinks (one in the post and other in your signature :))
As mentioned above, go for article submission and social bookmarking.

you are saying article submission is better than blog comments. search my services i have 8 page article submission thread. but actual thing is article submission make only instant traffic after few days it doesn't make any traffic.

article submission helps index your article quickly but not your site. Post some few blog comments and see the result your site definitely come to higher position.

I always use social sites for link building, blog commenting because the link can easily approved and wiki sites.

Different people think differently of services like Linkvana, but I thought I'd throw the option out there. If you have a lot of websites it can be cost effective, but if you only have one, it can be expensive.

You could also try contacting other blog with similar content. I find they are very helpful if the benefit is mutual.
