Social media can be a great way to promote. A few other methods are email marketing (assuming you have a list, which you should), article marketing, blog commenting, and forum posting. Hope this gave you some ideas. Jake

True you are marketing, but your wanting to discuss marketing an Ebook. There you would receive input from members who have experience with this.
Have you thought about affiliate marketing? It could be a great way to get your product out there via other people.

Check out How "I Sold 1 Million eBooks in 5 Months!" by John Locke on Amazon Kindle. It was around $5 when I bought it several months ago. I'm not up to using all his techniques, but he has some great ideas. If you don't own a Kindle, you can read it on your PC with the free (from Amazon) Kindle reader.
Make sure you have good keywords that will rank in Google before you upload your book to kindle. Then make sure you have TAGS that rank in Amazon, these are 2 different things. You need to get reviews for your book, some sales for your book, then you will rank better with amazon. You need to backlink to the URL of your book. Market it worldwide through Amazon, BUT make sure you go into each countries amazon store and get the correct amazon tags for that country. I have found each countries tags within amazon can be different. If you don't understand what I have just written, you need to "Bone Up" on this before uploading your book, as you will miss out on sales. I wish you every success.
I am sorry but you should have found the traffic first then write your book to that traffic's liking! Amazon will advertise you book for you if it sells. Find forums and blogs in the niche that your book is about and post quality content ! Guest post on those blogs and advertise on the forums Remember traffic is one thing but targeted traffic is what will sell your book.
Post that cover photo image in as many places as you can. Facebook. tumblr. whereever photos can be hosted. This will generate interest and increase your web presense dramtically
Sounds like it's going to be a good book. Try YouTube marketing. Get a nice voiceover on Fiverr.com, create a picture slide show of a "loser" in highschool who transformed his life in 5 to 10 years... Put some epic music behind it and tag it with keywords from stuff that people are searching for. Pay for some views and BOOM.. You're in the top of google..
