Try to find blogs related to your site and make comments on, thats a good idea. You could always buy links on high-ranking sites too.

I would recommend directory submissions, and perhaps creating mini-sites for backlinks that are located on a different IP.
How good are these sites that promises back links to your site? I mean, wont it hurt if those links come from irrelavant sites?
Its best to get backlinks from other sites in your niche. You can use a dofollow search engine to find them. I'd suggest using firefox and the nodofollow plugin to verify that its actually a dofollow site still too!
In my experience, links with good anchor text make a difference even if the sites are on a different topic. Good anchor text on a relevant site is much better though of course.
I write a lot of content...Google made my blog an authority in a given niche and Yahoo is linked up with the RSS that Goole provides. Long story short, got over 800 back links from Yahoo. Write quality content, Write often, become a recognized authority in your niche and back links will effortlessly build.
The best way to get high quality links is to write ultra high quality content. This way authority sites will notice you and eventually link to your site every now and then.
Dude- Go to "Linkvana". Its costly, but it works. And you can get all the hi pr backlinks you want. Seriously, besides article submission software, its the #1 thing that can make a big difference and it works.
Now see, THAT was a useful, informative post . Not just 'Mwah go and do blogs mwah, directory submissions mwah.' Almost everyone here knows about blogs, directory sumbissions, Press Releases, But not everybody knows HOW to do it, if you see my meaning. What people want are tips, certain ways of doing things, good trusted methods. Not just aload of old gobble that everyone has spewed out at some point about how to go and submit to Dmoz and get listed in 2 days, 'cuz that'll happen -_-
Wiki pages is also a good source of backlinks as they are the most quality pages on the web. Try creating some informative wiki pages it will help you to build the quality and authentic links. Yes but take care of the content in the wiki page. It should be unique and no keywords stuffed. It should have just the information of your site.
1. Directory Listings........only relevant sub-categories with Do Follow & matching KW. (example: My site's main KW is "Weddings", so I make sure the directory has a sub-category with that title, "Weddings") 2. Blog Comments........must be Do Follow, and look for Top Commentator widget on that blog. Top commenters get front page links, which carry higher PR value than a link that's buried deep into an article or blog post. 3. Forum Postings with Signatures........Do Follow & Anchor Text only. Do not waste your time at forums that do not allow anchor text in your siggy. 4. Web Portals with Profile Pages (do follow).....get yourself listed in EVERY prominent web portal site (Linked In, Naymz, etc).....make sure you fill out the "About Me" section with your Anchor Text link(s). 5. no follow links --- STILL USEFUL to a limited extent: (a) high traffic sites with No Follow will draw visitors, (b) Google Webmaster Tools is crawling these links AND doing a "Key Word Analysis" on ALL the links listed as External Links (in GWT). These KW go into Google's analysis of "What The Google Bot Sees" at GWT.
