I don't think directory submission is as effective anymore.. anyway, just my opinion.. Try article submission
Hello, Directories is a good idea, but you will have not too many visit from directories, try to exchange links with related websites
like Kctan said, article submissions are pretty good in generating a few backlinks here and there.there are some article directories that have very good page strength and reputation.
Does anyone have a list of the best directories to submit too? I'd hate to waste hundreds of dolors submitting my link and find out I did all the crappy directories.
If you have the time - do both of them. You can outsource the directory submission, it's really annoying believe me

i agree with you janna... but remember always our Content. because if we have a nice contents on our site other people has automatically link their site to us...
I agree with poksa. If you write content that is well written and useful you will naturally get backlinks. Try a little social bookmarking with a catchy title, submit your articles to appropriate websites, become an active forum poster related to your industry, update your content often and don't write garbage because that is what you will get in return. I think traditional link exchanges and directory inclusions work well if you you are going after some authority websites however I think writing content for your site is the best way to spend your time. You will be adding to your site which search engines love, getting backlinks and keep visitors returning for fresh content.
Different methods can be helped, I would rather advice you the best strategy: If you want sites link to you without doing submissions or exchanges, create good content. If you want faster links, put links in forum signatures. If you want normal but better backlinks, directory submission
Google would not consider trackbacks as back links as most blog trackbacks have nofollow tag. If you get listed in dmoz that would do great help to your site.
