You can really pay people to post on your forum ?? Does anyone know the going rate for this? LOL I was on a board that dealt with family issues and the moderating was getting out of control so I started my own forum, I took the name of the board and bought the name so it would be easy for those other forum members to remember. Well in the first week almost 200 of those members came and joined my site. While they come and look to see if there is new stuff posted they seem to have gotten shy themselves when it comes to posting. My forum is perfect for all the controversial stuff, especially if it involves family members. LOL

So, if you have problems 'dealing with the inlaws' just add a dot com to that and you can see what I am talking about. LOL I have someone working on a new forum design because while it is a forum I really don't like it looking so much like one.

Do people charge per post ?? I am very intruiged by this whole thing now and would love a bit more information if someone wants to private message me I would be truly greatful.

Paying people to post seems like a good idea to me. I am trying to determine the best way to go about this on my forum as I type this. Does anyone have a link to a website or service that they have used that will result in good people bringing good content to my forum?

You can pay people... but if you're not bringing in new folks, then what's the point? You're just wasting money. Sure the occasional stumbler from google will see folks talking and maybe stay, but that's it.

You'll need to promote the site over at other forums. But you have to do it without spamming, and done tastfully.

Create some good content, unique, new... Fresh or controversial idea. Go to a larger but similar forum. Start to draw people in to yours by mentioning the content. Maybe a "contest".

Since I don't know exactly what you're doing, I can't be much more help. Come up with some unique ideas based upon your content.

Even something as simple as asking folks on a new forum: "Is there a call or need for this or am I wasting my time?" You will draw in new folks, IF you have something fresh and new.

Hope that helps. It's a long hard process. I started with my own forum with no intention of really promoting it much. I posted on other sites that I liked, and had the link in my sig. It grew and grew to what I have today which isn't huge, but nothing to sneeze at either.

Paying people? Why the hell would you wanna do that when you could post it yourself. We're all aready lazy enough to sit on our asses and work online, don't tell me we're getting too lazy to even type and click!

I don't care what niche it is, you can always fake it.

Why would I waste a couple hours each day posting on my forums when I can pay some fillipino 20$ to do it? Not only do I save myself the hassle and the boredom, it creates a job.

HAHA this is ridiculous. 50 people wont make 10 posts each. Your friends have to do them all.

That can be tricky. If it's just a matter of post count then there will be three threads with 100 replies each all saying "I agree"

Make sure you put some type of content clause on the rules, or it'll be a bust... as 5000 one liners is not going to help you in getting traffic.

... about 32,800 from forums.digitalpoint.com for "PM sent".

Thats more posts with two words from DP then most forums have members ;)

To start up http://kinz-land.com I just created 5 accounts and posted between them all. The first "real" member is still there today.

Make a forum about something useful that helps people.. for example www.TaxForum.us - helps people to figure out how to file taxes

It's not even close to advertising, karbin.

A Webmaster will lose out big time because only one-half to one percent of a site's visitors click on ads. More money will be going out paying these unenthusiastic "posters" who crank out half-ass, mediocre posts, one after another than there will be coming in from ads.

A few more, REALISTIC things I had forgot to mention:

    1. Go to big-boards.com to see some of the largest boards out there. Now, one at a time, send each one an e-mail asking how they did it.

Yes, practically all won't reply back, obviously, but a few here and there will be enough to give you what you need to know.

You can have a dead site on, say, sports, but if you ask for help from a board owner who has thousands coming in every day and it is on, say, video games, the odds are better that he will help you out.

Devote another hour each day sending those e-mails out.

    2. You've seen the ads DigitalPoint places in between the boards. Do the same, but use a "tell a friend" form.

Get them at the heat of the moment.

But don't over do it. Use them for only the real good threads.

    3. Study JohnChow.com and Shoemoney.com. Take it apart and study them!

Chow got a big start with a combination of cheap click ads and DIGG. Word of mouth soon took over.

    4. Start threads asking for help, advice. Don't just say, "comments, anyone?"

This will get you more posts. If you can get many of them to post at least one time, that will be a jumpstart for you. And they will then be more likely to post again, which, in turn, will have others wanting to join in with their help.

Get the posts and threads breeding like rabbits this way.

On this thing about giving stuff away. I'm sorry, but this reeks of being desperate. Combine that with an empty board, and, brother, that ain't good. You don't think many visitors can see that?

Besides, they will just take the prize and keep on a walkin'. And...not even so much as a "thank you."

    Fuck that noise.

GOOD posts and threads is what brings them in and keeps them there. Not ridiculous contests.

Its not advertising. It serves the same purpose - drawing people to your site. You pay the forum posters so that when new users show up - they don't see a dead board. You don't expect to make revenue on the people who you're paying to post.

Pay 10 controversial writers. Who seem popular on the internet.

    Thats another theory from me.

Although i have not tried it. But its definetely worth giving it a go.

Let me see. I can pay someone 20$ to do something for me for hours (as someone else mentioned) while I work for 20$/hour+, or I can spend hours of my time working at much less than minimum wage multiposting using multiaccounts. The choice is obvious.

Hey I'm not sure if it's considered bad etiquette to post affiliate links here, if so I apologize, but 2 people sent me PMs asking about it.

I have personally been using GetAFreelancer as a freelance website. There is a large number of foreign workers on that website, many more than on the other ones, so they undercut each other's prices. It's a great, cheap and efficient place for services which are simple such as banner design, forum posts etc.

Just make sure that the person speaks english well and check where they're from. I've hired a couple indians in the past and while they're good coders, it's sometimes very difficult understanding what they're trying to say. For the price though, it's worth the trouble.
