I currently have a website where customers purchase 'instant access' to my product. This product can be enjoyed by anyone on the globe and I was wondering what might be the best way to market the site internationally? (i live in US)
Well, basically you simply apply marketing tips to global instead of local scale. There are some additional preparations which you might need to consider, such as: - different languages? - different timezones? - different currencies? - shipping - vat (and so on... google for "localization") Simply make sure that your website caters for international audience in things like times. For example, in US when you use date 02/04/07 it means February 4th, but in Europe (many places anyway) that date is actually April 2nd. I'd suggest using month names in dates ("like Jan 3, 07" - that's universal). These are tiny issues, but they must be taken care to make sure your website is ready for the traffic.
if you've got a bit of money to spend, you might consider adwords - you can target campaigns toward the countries you choose. And you don't have to know their language - I'm in the U.K. and do loads of business in Europe, in Italy, Spain, France, Germany in particular, and I don't advertise in those languages, and don't use them on my site.
submit to smaller search engines in other countries Ireland has a load and England also try to get into goolge in different countries
As with search engines, try to get listed on directories or websites which are also specifically targetted at the locations you're trying to tap into.
