They have it up to date always, but they hide it from the link: command to 'prevent people from deciphering google's algorithms' (their words, not mine).

 

I am not sure this is true. If one of my stories would get picked up by newspapers and would then show up on hundreds of blogs I surely wouldn't mind and neither would Google.
Getting a million Blog Comment links is a whole different story.

 

Is backlink watch specific to google?

 

1. Post in well indexed forums and keep the links in your signature.
2. Buy some forum signature links and Pageranked links. Check the PR links you are buying for backlinks before you buy.
3. Create sitemap and put in google.
4. If your site changes , resubmit sitemap.
5. Submit site to some good directories.
6. Keep a look on the visitors you are getting and their locations.
