Hi - I'm trying to maximize my ad revs just wanted to see how other Adsensers are identifying the lowest paying ads on their pages to filter out. Do you just look at the ads being displayed and filter the ones that are least relevant? I know how to use the competitive ad filter but am curious how to figure out exactly which ads are dragging down my CPCs and CPMs. Thanks for your help.
I blocked ebay.com. A couple of days ago I saw that Google Advisor (?) is encouraging me to unblock them, but my guess is that will help G more than me. Any other opinions?
Unfortunately you can only block 200. Google would prefer you don't block any ads at all (Bad idea for you, unless you want to make less). The way you tell which ads are duds is to install a tracking script then compare the results of that script against your Adsense Channels.
I actually starting blocking sites and it seems that in the end, I have been getting more PSA than ever before. So I decided to remove all the sites from the competitive filters and at least I am getting clicks. In the end, what counts is what my visitors wants because the sites are built for them. To my surprise, I actually getting better CPM now that I have no blocked sites but then again, it may just be me.
I use a script to see what sites they are clicking on. Many on the list on the blacklist do not even show on my sites so why block them? I Pick a few a day and sometimes remove them beacuse this companies will close or change name all the time
Best way is to check what all ads are appearing on your side and then decide which ones you want block and which ones you don't. More then the low paying ones, I would be interested in blocking ads which do not match the theme of my website and thus convert poorly.
Couldn't agree with this more, if your ads are relevant and are not paying enough maybe you should create a site with better paying keywords or try to boost your CTR.
Would have to disagree, I've found a lot of sites showing very relevant ads but the site itself is crap with no useful information and the visitor is back in 2 seconds to my site. I was getting low single-digit earnings for those clicks and probably smartpriced as well since the visitors don't convert on the advertisers site.
I don't believe in ad-blocking for financial reasons. I believe google knows very well which ads to show to make you (and them) most money. I do block URL's to sites I think are unethical though. On low paying pages I will also minimize the amount of ad-blocks: so the ads that do get shown are at least the highest paying ones.
Again, have to disagree...I've run tests on my particular site (may not hold true for other sites, but does for mine) and there were statistically significant improvements when I blocked. Google was NOT showing the highest paying ads. The ads themselves looked like everything a visitor would want, but they were written that way to get visitors to their MFAA site...when you visited the site there was a little scraped content and a pile of adsense ads.
I also disagree, why would they try to make you the most money? It is pretty much a random dsitribution, one minute you may get an 8 dollar click, the next an 8 cent click
ebay ? ..Hmmm.. For me, I checked the log (I installed adlogger), and remove MFA websites and non properly developed websites. That works for me, at least. Cheers,
