Yahoo site explorer - I use SEO Quake to access it rather than a bookmarks as I can get out other information at the same time, all in one place.

I check my backlinks at http://www.linkdiagnosis.com/

It can even show you the page rank of the backlinks, but you have to install their firefox plugin first.

I use Yahoo! Site Explorer. I think it is the best tool because Yahoo is one of the most popular search engines, so it is important to know their view on your backlinks.

I think the amount of backlinks you are shown is correct.

I dont know why but sometimes google really does a certain kind of
miscalculation of the PR, I also have a site with only one backlink and
a PR2 and I even had a case where with around 30 sb sites a completely
new site went from PR na to PR 4!!!

I definitely think there has been a miscalculation on their part on the latest PR update and to this end I think we might see some downgrading over the next few weeks as Google catches on.

that is right, this "miscalculation" will be gone in the next update.

btw, to check backlinks without taking into account every backlink from the same domain
its better if you use www.yahoo.de instead of yahoo.com
