I read a post/article? (i've searched through dp but can't find it) perhaps it was another board? anyway it describes the best place/way to purchase an expired domain name... I really, Really, REALLY want to get an expiring domain Answering my questions as I go... (searching and typing) the other board does have an interesting thread about this same issue and a really good comment there was finding out who the current registrar is and who they drop to and then going through them - excellent advice, I missed out on a site late last year through godaddy's backorder - that is fantastic - if no one else wants it. The domain I want is through capitalnetworks which redirects to www. totalnic.net.au/ an australian company, which says if you want a .com go to www. pacnames.com/ so now I'm confused? Does anyone know how to find out who an icann drops to? BTW... found the article I was thinking of... will read it again myself. http://www.mikeindustries.com/blog/archive/2005/03/how-to-snatch-an-expiring-domain As I said answering (almost) as I go, but thought someone else may find this interesting too.
there are a lot of drop catcher..google it you will find it just don't pay money for back order, it will never work
As soon as a domain expires is available at any registrar service... except if it is monitored by someone else who may grab it first. this is a good place to find the domains which expire or are about to http://www.justdropped.com
Not sure about .com.au's, but the top three dropcatchers are as follows: 1) Snapnames - http://www.snapnames.com 2) Enom Club Drop - http://www.enom.com 3) Pool - http://www.pool.com With all these you enter into a auction if the service is successful in acquiring the domain. Snapnames and Pool charge a minimum $60 U.S...not so sure about enom...havent used it as much, but they have A LOT of domains on there books. There are so many third party enom affiliated registrars its not funny. To increase your chances of success Id check out this page http://whois-search.com/deleting/who.php Out of the three i find Snapnames to be pretty good..but it really depends on the above list. Good Luck If the domain is really good, be prepared to pay lots of cash
thanks samskpunk, mystique and nerz, will look at those suggestions I think from what I've read snapnames seems to be the best bet... I wonder if there are domain agents yet? with all the required skills and experience etc that procure on your behalf... might look into that. Will happily pay $60 at each dropcatcher for the ability to get this one. thanks for this link http://whois-search.com/deleting/who.php that is exactly what I was looking for
The domain business is fun but its a little out of my league for the good stuff. Ive sold about 40 domains myself through various means...made a few mistakes in the early days...Its pretty specialized when you get into it. Snapnames has been ok to me...But it didnt get pspsoftware.com for me a week ago...Mind you i didnt even check which registrar it was with at the time..kind of a "snap" decision (lol man im funny ) Ive had domains come into the basket at $60 and end up in the thousands a few times...There are so many people with soooo much cash to spend on the good stuff.
yeah this one I want is a really good one, it's been left dormant for about 2 years (still has a pr of 6 and thousands o' links at google)... just hoping no one else out there is thinking of it too... what are the odds?... there's not that many folks out there are there? I should have sold off mine, currently got about 20, I just let the ones I don't want any more expire - and then see them later running ads.. so I know about mistakes
It kind of depends if its niche or not....If its at all popular..well with that PR and that number of backlinks..its gonna cost you a pretty penny im afraid. People research this stuff full time...Lots of domainers do nothing else but buy and sell domains..half of em dont even build websites at all, and man its scary how much cash they have to burn. Off course the other problem you have is the "conspiracy" which i think is pretty much fact that a lot of registrars are hoarding domains for themselves...Lets face it...how would the average joe ever know if they did? The whole game lacks transparancy, *points finger at ICANN* Lift Your Game. Aside from that little rant I wish you the best of luck..just occasionally you can get lucky. It still happens, and thats what keeps everyone going.
