I see backlinks is only your concern but it took so long. I thought there were conversions happening in your campaign and only rankings your up to.
I wouldn't do that thing with directories. Google heavily penalizes them. Perhaps a handful of links in strong directories wouldn't hurt, but I wouldn't use directories heavily. Guest articles and contextual links tend to work pretty well.
Obviously, the most common way is through guest posting and forum link posting. But there are communities where you can post articles - sites that publish news, tips, advice. But this is not guest article writing, just sounds similar. One should also do social media exposure and some press releases.
