Hey, I'm wondering what you guys think is the best format to archive your Posts? I'm currently exploring 2 options.

First option: Default WP Archives -
    ComputerGamers.com/2006/11/

Second option - Modified Simple archives -
    ComputerGamers.com/gossip/news-archives/

Personally I think the second option might work best. What do you guys think is better option for onsite SEO?

I would say go with the second..for optimization reasons I think it would do better..Its more specific and not just a bunch of numbers in the eyes of the spider..just my 2 cents

I'm with MidWestMerchant - go with words rather than numbers every time...

It is going to vary from site to site - but I never treat an archived article any different from a "published" one.

Whatever URL is created when I write an article - it stays like that forever.

It is very bad form to swap urls, as inbound links may end up pointing to a non existant article.

I would say the second option.

    Why?

    1. The first option...

The SE's (and the users..not that many look at the url) will see a bunch of random irrelevant numbers first, then the post name.

    2. The second option....

The SE's (and the users...) will see RELATED keyword/phrase, RELATED keyword/phrase, then the post name.

    3. It's a fact.

Yes, it's a FACT. Keywords in your url help you win the ranking war. (along with countless other tips & tricks)

Oh, and be careful not to make the url to lengthy that can hurt you.

    ................................................

    So based on those facts....

    Which sounds better to you?
