Best way to archive pages for SEO

Looking to archive information on my site as I don't want to lose any backlinks pointing to those pages.

Currently, it is set up in the CMS to have a page be taken offline when a date has passed.

I would like to keep the information but what is the best way to archive for the search engines?

    Many thanks,

    John

You could create an archive index page and have links to all your expired articles on the archive index page, then put a link on your home page to the archive index.

Take a look at the bottom of this forum and click on Library. It shows the archives like mintoj described.

I would use the same type of archive system that Wordpress uses... you may have to do it manually. Using year and months to format the data.

Just make sure that archived pages aren't too many clicks away from the homepage. Sometimes people archive things so many levels deep that it takes 4 or 5 clicks to get to any of the archived pages. If the page is too many clicks from the homepage, it won't have much PR and will be quite ineffective.

But if the pages have PR applied to them, doesn't moving them remove the PR?
