If you're only after basic editing, then windows movie maker can be up to the task, however, I do prefer Sony Vegas and Final Cut
Pinnacle was always way too buggy for me. Constant errors and not the best quality in the end. Sony Vegas was the easiest for me to work with. Never had problems and is very user friendly.
if you're just up to cutting append and save, kino video editor is best. but if your too put subtitles and etc...then use virtualdub. these are free software.
What about Camstasia? I keep hearing that this is quite good as well for marketing video.. What is the difference between this software and the ones you mentioned above?
I usually edit me videos with Sony Vegas, but I would like to learn Adobe After Effects...I have seen a couple of movies made with it and they are simply amazing
