Best use for Defensive-Domain Purchases

Hi all, I know there are numerous opinions on what to do with parked domains (how to monetize, etc). What do you think the best use is for defensive purchases. For example, say my site is http://xyz.com and I buy http://xyz.net and http://xzy.com and http://zyx.com etc to make sure the traffic is not mis-lead.

    Should I
    1) redirect these sites to my domain (if so, via 301 redirect or provide a link)
    2) replicate the content to those domains
    3) use some kind of park/monetize option and assume my customers will find the appropriate site and generate some revenue w/ the defensive domains

What is the impact as far as SEO if I should use items 1 or 2?

    Thanks for your thoughts! :)

If you have xyz.com, the ownership of the others extension is not necessary.
However parking .net on the .com is the best choice

If you use option 2 then its not a good move coz google will penalize you by having duplicated content on both site. However you can use .net to redirect the traffic to .com domain

This is something I've been wrestling with lately. I would like to ask this question....

If you own let say dogs.com wouldn't you want to own dog.com also OR the singular and plural form of the name?

I've also had the unique experience of me owning a .com & .net and someone actually registered the .com and slapped the word 'baby' to the end of it. LOL

i recently did this with my big popular site... since it's a two word domain i also bought the .com with a dash between the two words. haven't done anything with them yet, thinking of either redirecting to the main site or using it as some sort of related store or forum. probably will redirect though.
