    Hi there,

I'm not new to SEO, but this is very important right now, so I want to get reassurance that I'm doing the right thing.

    The question is:
What is the best URL structure for SEO?
    1. domain.com/category/pagetitle/pageid
    2. domain.com/category/pageid/pagetitle

Currently I think that #2 is better. Most blog platforms have that structure, and I've also been able to use it succesfully on some of my other websites.

But additional feedback is always welcome :)

It also depends on the website.... if you have one with a very small chance of repeating titles I would go directly for domain.com/pagetitle.... just my 2 cents

The thing is that I want to have the /category/, cause it will also be a keyword, a pretty useful one, so I can't drop /category/.

    Philopoemen,

You are right. Choice number 2 seems to be the best way to go, from my experience. The actual name of the file itself always seems to take precedence over the name of the directory it is in. Combined with a good URL, creating a great keyword-ed name for the file is a great step in building a good SEO strategy. Major SEs really only pay attention to the URL and the final page name; again, directory names just don't seem to be given much weight.

Yeah, that's something that I also noticed. It is better to have your final and most important keyword(file name, page title) at the end of the URL, even if it is preceded by 3-5 subdirectories.

Hmm, are you saying that #1 will rank better than #2?

    #1. domain.com/category/page-title.html(php)
    #2. domain.com/category/page-title/

No, I am not saying that, I am saying its best for the site, it leaves you more options if you should decided to ever change scripts , which in turn is good for seo

Thats why I like to use that extension, Just my thoughts

    i would go for

    domain.com/category/page-keyword(s)/

1- Try to avoid keyword repetition in url
    2- Keep the url short
3- Keywords separated by hyphens’. like: toshiba-laptop-battery
4- Avoid using special characters in url

i will recommended Domain name rather than title of the link in the URL:
    i.e.
i am having site regading seo services,
    cygnet-infotech.com

    Than,
    URL would not become like,

    .....category/seo/search engine optimization india
here search engine optimization india already on link anchor text so it need not to be repeat again.

Instead of that you should use like,
    category/seo/cygnet-infotech

if you still not going to do this than your choice 2nd one would be best among all these three you mentioned.

    Thanks and Regards,
    Chaitanya Patel.
