Which URL shorteners track the unique number of clicks for each link? I've been using Google URL Shortener but I noticed that it tracks the TOTAL number of clicks and not the UNIQUE number of clicks.
I use bit.ly to track my links and it does a good job. Not sure if it tracks only the unique clicks though...
I used to make use of Tweetburner because it allowed you to track how plenty of people clicked on each link &, because it worked fine, I seldom looked at any other url-shortening services. But it wasn't always reliable, & then it disappeared for some time so I had to go search for a new that would track clicks. Now I juse cli.gs & I am liking it. The thing I wish it had is details about each that clicked the link--specifically, what their Twitter ids are. Sounds like Trim & Bit.ly offer this--I'll must check them out. Url shorteners actually solved a huge, potentially revenue-reducing problem at my association. We do a weekly literature review that includes a section for news and alerts. We use a third party for this service and, for whatever reason, any links that contain the % sign don't work--any url containing "%" simply don't work. This presented a huge problem when it came to linking to products in our online store, as they all have long urls with % signs in them. Not being able to link back to a product you're promoting in a newsletter so people can click through to it and hopefully purchase it? That's a problem. But using an url shortener allowed us to work around it-and also provides another metric for click thrus to those particular products.
Thanks for the reply. By the way if you're using a service where '%' signs don't work it's probably a problem with how the url is being encoded or decoded. For instance when you encode a url that looks like 'www.abc.com/?parameter=Hell World' it would encode into 'www.abc.com/?parameter=Hell%20World' and decode back into the original. Do you know if bit.ly tracks unique clicks though?
I use adf.ly, it works well for recording clicks (sometimes even counts your own, but don't test).. and pays ok... the only thing I don't like is it takes a day to update.
